From the Pastor

    Being from the South, food is a huge part of our culture. When we gather, we like to to eat. From backyard barbecues to fancy dinners, we use food to bring us together. The same is true for the church. If we meet together for fellowship, someone is bringing "refreshments." No Vacation Bible School would be complete without "Kool-Aid and Cookies", nor would a Baptist "get together" without some fried chicken or bananna pudding. The amount of food we prepare and eat is almost sinful. Notice I said "almost" sinful No one wants to discourage a great meal.
    We all have our own favorites too. We can remember the taste of so  many wonderful things. One bite of certain foods can transport us back to another time of wonderful memories. The taste of a ripe, sweet watermelon makes me think of great childhood experiences. There are things that we taste and never want to experience that taste again, but those foods we enjoy, we want another bite.
    We savor those good experiences. We long for the next time we get to eat that wonderful recipe. In fact, the recipe may be a family secret passed to future generations for their enjoyment. Every cook or chef loves to hear people compliment the food they prepared.

    In Psalm 34, David gives God praise, and compares it to tasting something good. Listen to David's words;
1  "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continyually be in my mouth.
2  My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3  O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
4  I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5  They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faceswere not ashamed.
6  This poor man cried, and the Lord heard hi, and saved him out of all his troubles.
  7 The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
  8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
(Psalm 34: 1-8)

    As we praise God, our soul is flooded with His goodness, just like our taste buds are flooded with the good taste of our favorite food. Enjoy praising God today, not matter your circumstances. Take the time to taste God's goodness and grace today.

God Bless!
